Mr Bingley, 'the single man in possession of a good fortune'

Bingley, who sets the book going, is kind, easy-going. All the beautiful young women seem to feel attracted to him, indeed he enjoys dancing and chating with all of them, totally opposite of his great friend Darcy, somewhat unreflective. The best example of Bingley's ductility personality is shown when he falls easily back in love with Jane after his friend's permission, now that he enjoys the approval of this friend.
Bingley as well as Jane are less intricate and developed characters as Darcy and Elizabeth (in contrast with the other pair or love interest of the novel).
   

Jane Bennet

She is the oldest of the Bennet daughters. She is the most beautiful of them and has good heart and gentle nature. She sees only the best in people, becoming rather extreme at times; for instance, in her disbelief that Wickham could be a liar.
Although Jane gets to married his beloved man, Bingley, her relationship with him is a rather static one. Their relationship, while pleasant, has nothing to do with the range of emotions that Elizabeth and Darcy feel for each other. Jane and Bingley are obviously in love and are compatible, but their relationship lacks the depth and devotion of feelings in Lizzy and Darcy's marriage, it is not the same level of passion.

George Wickham

Wicham is a charming and well-spoken young man, who uses his charismatic personality to insinuate himself into the lives of others. His behaviour throughout the novel shows him to be a gambler who has no scruples about running up his debts and then running away. He has a really mercenary nature noticed by some female characters in the novel, like Mrs. Gradiner or Elizabeth herself.
His marriage to Lydia Bennet represents a relationship that is based on physical gratification, which shows he acts upon his impulses combined with negligence.

Lydia Bennet

LYDIA BENNET

The Bennet's immature and irresponsible youngest daughter. Mrs Bennet's favourite, she shocks the family by running away with Wickham. Lydia is fully developed physically at fifteen. She shares with her mother a partiality for men in uniform and an obsession with fashionable clothes. She is always flirting with any man; she might be really vain and silly and totally irresponsible. She is described by Austen as a girl with " high animal spirits".

Mr Bennet

MR BENNET

Elizabeth's ironic father. Unhappily married, he has failed to provide a secure financial future for his wife and daughters, hoping still for the birth of a son that would put things to rights.
In the first chapter Mr Bennet dismisses all his daughters as "silly and ignorant, like the other girls", but praises Lizzy for her quickness. Moreover he is conscious of his sense of superiority over his wife and he quietly enjoys this superiority. He is morally indolent and self-indulgent.

Mrs Bennet

Elizabeth's foolish and greedy mother who is obsessed with finding suitable husbands for her five daughters, none of which can inherit the estate when Mr Bennet dies. Hence, she is crazy and obsessed with finding wealthy husbands for her pretty daughters, no matter how. It's pretty much the plot of Pride and Prejudice.
 Mrs Bennet is portrayed as superficial in her understanding, trivial in her interests and mistaken in her judgements throughout the whole novel. Also she is considered to be really narrow-minded and her manners shock Mr Darcy and embarrass Jane and Elizabeth.
 Lydia, the youngest of the sisters, is her favourite daughter, but later on she is totally blind at Lydia's marriage with Wickham, whose behaviour includes seducing young girls and then running away from debts.
Whereas we can laugh with Mr Bennet, we laugh at Mrs Bennet. Her character is an extreme caricature of the 19th century mother: pushy, demanding, talkative, and ambitious for her daughters.

Elizabeth, the most admirable and endearing heroine

ELIZABETH BENNET

Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bennet is the 20-year-old second sister and the protagonist of the story. She is her father's favourite daughter who inherits his intelligence and wit. She is generally regarded as one of the most enduring and popular female protagonist in English literature.

An intelligent and sipirited young woman who possesses a keen wit and enjoys studying people's characters. Although she initially dislikes Darcy, circumstances cause her to change her mind and her first negative impression of him making her falling totally in love with Darcy.
 Elizabeth is considered to be a beautiful and charming young woman, with "fine eyes" to which Mr. Darcy is first drawn. He is later attracted more particularly to her "light and pleasing" figure, the "easy playfulness" of her manners, her mind and personality, and eventually considers her "one of the handsomest women" in his acquaintance. She is Mr Bennet's favourite daughter, intelligent and lively, and her "quickness" of mind is made evident in her taste for witty and teasing conversation, where she likes to adopt striking and independent views.

 Elizabeth`s conception of marriage in Pride and Prejudice is based on a love marriage, not an arranged marriage but a true and a pure marriage, refusing her cousin Mr Collins because she is not in love with him and she is not resigned herself to accept him only because that is the only way of not being alone. This is totally opposite to the thought of the society of the time in which women had only a way to survive, and that way was getting married with a man of fortune.

Darcy, our favorite male character

Fitzwilliam Darcy

We can consider Darcy as the main male character. He is an english gentleman 28 years of age, son of a very rich and important family and he owns the estate of Pemberley.

At first we see Darcy as an introvert, arrogant and egocentric man but later Darcy’s personality is stripped to the point of feeling sympathy for the character and we can understand why he is so quiet and observant ( maybe he consider the society and situations so absurd that he prefer not to take part in them) and we see that he has inside an honest and kind man..

Initially, he consider Elizabeth inferior to him for her social class and family and not very pretty but he can’t deny that he feels interest by this intelligent and ironic woman that looks him most that he think.

When Darcy was first declared to Elizabeth, he is rejected because of the pride and prejudice that Elizabeth feels, but later, Elizabeth realizes that was really wrong about him and she accepts the second preposition.

Through this couple, where love overcomes the social prejudices, Jane Austen manages to convince us of the perfection of this couple.
